Understanding Shiatsu Massage

What is shiatsu Massage?
Shiatsu means finger pressure, derived from the Japanese practice of working on acupressure points to release Qi (pronounced Chee). Like acupuncture, shiatsu shiatsu releases blockages in the body by using the meridian channels to promote energy uplift. Though Shiatsu trShiatsus to finger pressing, a therapist would also consider using other forms to increase pressure, such as standing on the client or using palms, elbows, and knees.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) refers to Qi as the vital energy constantly circulating through the body. TCM is not based on modern science but is rooted in ancient Chinese practices, including herbal remedies, acupuncture, and exercise such as Tai Chi.

How is a shiatsu Massage done?
The client lies fully clothed on the table or mat on the ground. At the same time, the therapist uses kneading, pressing, soothing, tapping, stretching techniques, body stretching, rotation, and joint mobilisation.
The focus is on reviving the energy levels in the human body called the Qi, or pronounced Chee. This therapy is usually done with the client fully clothed.

Preparation for Shiatsu Massage
Wear loose, soft clothing, such as gym clothes, and avoid a heavy meal before the session or a fever. Shower before you come and wait at least 4 hours after the treatment to shower.
